Tripod's Thrift Shop
At Tripod's Thrift Shop, students can come pick up clothing and necessities from 1-5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays or 3-6 p.m. on Tuesdays. All they have to do is swipe their Bearkat OneCard upon entry.
SAM Center
The SAM Center is here to help Sam Houston State University students plan each step in their educational careers and ensure that they select classes related to their degree plan.
Student Health Center
The SHC offers a wide range of services through a primary care clinic, a nurse clinic, a laboratory and a pharmacy dedicated solely to SHSU students.
IT@Sam
IT@Sam works hard to provide students with all the resources they will need to succeed in their coursework on and off campus. Learn more about resources students have free access to through IT@Sam.
Academic Success Center
Now inside the first floor of Newton Gresham Library, the Academic Success Center provides opportunities for supplemental instruction in historically difficult courses. From tutoring, peer mentoring and academic recovery support, the team aims to cultivate a growth mindset within each student client.
Student Money Management Center
The SHSU Student Money Management Center is a financial outreach and educational program with the mission of empowering students to achieve financial independence.
Career Services
Career Services helps prepare students for the professional world. This free service sets up Bearkats for success by providing quality resources, programming and compassionate support needed to educate and empower students and alumni to achieve a life-long fulfilling career.
Title IX
Sam Houston State University continues to go above and beyond to ensure student safety with help of the Title IX office. Title IX aids victims of sexual assault or any type of sex or gender discrimination on campus and their services are available to all members of the SHSU community including students, faculty, staff and visitors.
The Writing Center
The Writing Center, a division of the Academic Success Center helps students create ideas for essays, identify their target audience, organize their papers, improve writing styles, and teach them how to proofread. They can even help students after the paper has been turned in and graded by interpreting the comments left by instructors and help students to avoid making the same mistakes.
The SHSU Food Pantry
Born out of a need to serve students who struggle with food insecurity, the SHSU Food Pantry provides quality and nutritious meals during distribution days twice a month. However, this new space, located behind the Katpost at 1108 17th street, is also open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday’s from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center
For many SHSU student workers, filing Federal Income Taxes is uncharted territory. For those whose household income is $56,000 or less, Sam Houston State University’s Bearkat Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center will provide free federal income tax assistance.
Newton Gresham Library
During typical times, the library supports and enhances the development of critically thinking, educated, and informed lifelong learners. Today, during the COVID-19 health crisis, its mission remains the same.
Therapy Assistance Online
At Sam Houston State University, the Counseling Center is committed to students’ well-being. This support includes helping students to manage emotions and be more effective in relationships with others. Currently, for pandemic safety purposes, sessions are being conducted via remote therapy, which is generally done through video.
Bearkats In The Workforce
Sam Houston State University has new initiatives in place to help get students and alumni into the workforce including virtual career and internship fairs and a new online program, The Jobs Show, which is now livestreamed on Zoom at 2 p.m. every other Wednesday.
Counseling Center
The SHSU Counseling Center provides services within the university environment that contributes to the academic success, personal growth, and positive social contribution of Sam Houston State University students.
Student Legal and Mediation Services
Located in the Lowman Student Center, SHSU has an experienced attorney on staff to inform current students of their rights and responsibilities.
Print Services
Services are available to all students for the purposes of student organizations, projects, events and general, pre-approved advertising on campus. The team specializes in producing just about anything you could need like programs, posters, magazines, flyers and brochures just to name a few.
Dietetic Nutritionists
Students seeking health and fitness advice have the option to meet with graduate interns from the Dietetic Master’s program when visiting the Recreational Sports Center.
