Since earning the Smith-Hutson Scholarship in 2021, Connor Brett has continually personified the work ethic and drive that defines Sam Houston State University students. The Crandall, Texas native took another leap toward his professional aspirations this summer with a dynamic mechanical engineering internship with Helmerich & Payne (H&P).

Sam Houston State University became federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in 2022. During the week of Sept. 11, SHSU recognizes this distinction as it plays a critical role in educating and empowering the youth, improving access to education and amplifying fairness by participating in National HSI Week.

The Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration chapter of Phi Chi Theta, a national co-ed business and economics fraternity, is continuing its strong tradition of community service by participating in the Bearkat All Paws In initiative.

Maliah Phillips started learning to sew in high school after a design course caught her eye. Her experience in the class and her fascination with the chic, feminine designs of iconic French fashion designer, Coco Chanel, led her on a path to fashion’s biggest stage.
