Nursing Graduate Embodies Bearkat Spirit
It is rumored that Sam Houston State University selected the Bearkat as a mascot due a saying at the time, “tough as a bearcat.” SHSU School of Nursing alumna, Rachel Stewart proved herself among the toughest of Bearkats as she earned her nursing degree despite becoming paralyzed in the middle of her academic journey.
SHSU Bearkat Advantage Program Expands to Serve More High School Students
Sam Houston State University is broadening its commitment to empowering high school students with expanded access to higher education opportunities. Launched in 2023 through partnerships with Huntsville ISD and Goose Creek CISD, the Bearkat Advantage Program is now reaching even more districts across Texas.
