“Here to Help” is a series focused on educating students on all the services available at Sam Houston State University. Many times students are unaware that these services are often offered at no cost with a Bearkat OneCard. Visit today@sam/HereToHelp to find the list of stories highlighted so far. If your department or student service would like to be featured for a future story email today@shsu.edu.
The Office of Career Services at Sam Houston State University has new initiatives in place to help get students and alumni into the workforce.
The Jobs Show
The department just launched a new online program, The Jobs Show, which is now livestreamed on Zoom at 2 p.m. every other Wednesday. The show features special guests from a variety of fields related to Criminal Justice and provides students with resources on job search strategies and networking. The next show will air on Oct. 7.
Useful job search information for students of all majors is provided through the program. The Job of the Week and Internship of the Week segments offer leads on current job openings for all students. There are also opportunities to win prizes.
“We want all Bearkats to get hired,” said Carol Adams-Shearer, creator of the show and career specialist for the College of Criminal Justice. “The show was created to provide practical information useful in making that happen.”

Virtual Career & Internship Fair
Open to all majors and student classifications, SHSU’s Virtual Career & Internship Fair will take place from 3-6 p.m. on Oct. 14. The event can be accessed virtually in Handshake for students and alumni to attend. Employers expected to participate include, Dreamworks Animation, DHL Supply Chain, Briggs & Veselka Co. and McCoy’s Building Supply.
According to Vinessa Mundorff, associate director of Career Services, there are a number of services the department is providing beyond job leads and interview tips.
“We are trying something new by offering a meal at the Paw Print for participation in the Career Fair,” Mundorff said. “Through this effort we can help students with food, their resumes, and even interview clothes through our Reba Bock Career Closet.”
