About-LEAP
The Center for Law, Engagement, And Politics (LEAP) offers advising, internships, and programming for students interested in expanding their education. Although the Center emphasizes law, civic engagement, and politics, the Center also incorporates programs and opportunities involving fine arts, literature, history, civil rights, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, philosophy, film, journalism, and sciences.
Advising is open to pre-law students, political science majors/minors, and legal studies minors. More information can be found on the LEAP Center's advising page.
Internships: Include three different programs. The Sam Houston Austin Internship Program (SHAIP), the Political Science Department's Internship Program, and the Woodforest Internship Program. Students can learn about the different internship programs by visiting the Austin Internship Program website or the Political Science Internship Program website.
Programs include guest speakers on campus; on-campus hearings by the Texas Tenth Court of Appeals; field trips to guest speakers in Houston, Austin, College Station, and other nearby cities; workshops hosted by legal and political experts; educational field trips; volunteer opportunities, Moot Court Team; Freshman Pre-Law Community (Univ 1101, taught by Professor Yawn); heART of Huntsville; and others.
