Austin Internship Program

Sam Houston Austin Internship Program (SHAIP)

The Sam Houston State Austin Internship Program is a wonderful opportunity for top SHSU students to learn about the legislative process, gain experience in the world of state governance, and apply workforce skills, all while building their resumes and professional networks.

Students accepted to the program are placed in various legislative offices to work full-time during the 89th legislative session, from early January through June 2025. Students who are selected will earn academic credit for their work and engage in a business environment that combines academic rigor with real-world responsibility.   Financial support is provided by the University.

Applications open September 1 and will close September 30.

SHSU is looking for students from all majors who are bright, hard-working, and responsible.  To apply, please submit your resume (using this format template) through this form, which also needs to be filled out.  For more information, please see this page or the FAQ page on the website.  In addition, all students are encouraged to contact Intern Director, Mike Yawn, for a more thorough overview of the program.

The application deadline may be extended following a review of existing applications.
