Dr. Brent Sanderlin
Brent Sanderlin, DO is the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine and an Associate Professor at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM), joining the faculty in April 2023.
Dr. Sanderlin earned his DO degree from the University of North Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC-TCOM), followed by internship and residency in Family Medicine with the US Navy, and a tour as a Naval Flight Surgeon. He came to SHSU-COM having previously served as faculty of the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was also Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. Prior to that he served as faculty at UNTHSC-TCOM, also teaching in their Family Medicine residency program.
In the interim between the two previous schools, Dr. Sanderlin worked as a family physician in Kyle, Texas for the Seton Family of Doctors, and as faculty in the Austin Family Medicine residency program. This was followed briefly by serving as the Chief Medical Information Officer for Seton Healthcare of Austin. He later worked as a family physician in San Marcos, Texas for the Adventist Health System. He has been active in multiple professional organizations for many years, serving in several leadership positions, including previously as president of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.
Dr. Sanderlin has more than twenty years in clinical practice and is board certified in Family Medicine by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine. He is also board certified in Clinical Informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and has received a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Occupational Medicine, as well as a Certificate in Travel Health. In addition, he has served for several years as an FAA Senior Medical Examiner.
