Dr. Courtney West
Courtney West, PhD, Associate Dean of Educational Affairs – College of Osteopathic Medicine is an SHSU alumna, receiving both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University. In 2006, she joined the staff at Texas A&M University and completed her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008. Dr. West joined the Texas A&M College of Medicine in 2008 and held several medical education positions of increasing responsibility in addition to her faculty/teaching role. Her responsibilities included establishing an academic enrichment program for students, faculty and curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, and leadership in medical education. She led the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Southern Group on Educational Affairs (SGEA) 2016 Conference hosted by Texas A&M, has worked on grants, published more than 20 peer reviewed articles, and has presented over 60 peer reviewed presentations.
In her current role at SHSU-COM, she is responsible for assessment and accreditation, faculty development and continuing medical education, and medical student affairs including academic support and learning resources. Dr. West's research interests include: learning and study strategies, instructional techniques, professional development, and team-based care. Dr. West, who was born, raised, and resides in Madisonville, Texas, is dedicated to the mission of the COM and is happy to be back at Sam Houston State University.
