Scholarships
The Scholarship Team in the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office coordinates and administers Sam Houston State University scholarship programs for all student classification levels. SHSU utilizes a streamlined application, Scholarships4Kats. This application dramatically simplifies the process for students by importing key information from their student data record and allowing them to be automatically considered for all relevant scholarships. A student has to be accepted to SHSU to apply for scholarships through the University portal. The priority deadline for Scholarships4Kats is November 1.
Additional Scholarships that require applications are as follows:
- Smith-Hutson EMBA Scholarship – Deadline March 9, 2054 The Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking and Smith-Hutson Scholarships are pleased to announce the addition of several financial need based scholarships for the Executive MBA in Banking and Financial Institutions program at Sam Houston State University for Fall 2025 enrollment. These scholarships are up to a total of $40,000 for First Year students (full two-year program) and up to $20,000 for Second Year students. Our Executive MBA was first offered in 2005 and has over 181 graduates from the esteemed program. Designed as a two-year cohort, the program requires a one-week residency in August each year with the remaining courses offered online. In addition, during the one week, the students are exposed to well-known industry speakers which are an important component to the overall content. While completing the program, the students can gain up to four certificates which include RMA Credit Essentials, RMA Operational Risk Management, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and a Cyber Certificate in Critical Infrastructure Security and Resiliency in Banking offered by SHSU’s Institute for Homeland Security. “We are very appreciative of the continued support our program receives from the visionary leadership at the Smith-Hutson Scholarships,” says Jill Vaughan, Chair, Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking. “These scholarships are truly a game changer for many of our students that are looking to develop themselves professionally and academically while obtaining an accredited EMBA here at SHSU. This program is an important part of the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking’s mission and vision. “The Smith-Hutson Scholarship program is a need based scholarship. Since 1996, the program has awarded 722 undergraduate scholarships to SHSU students. All recipients have an established financial need with approximately 77% being first generation. The creation of the new EMBA scholarship complements our existing undergraduate program, as well as the Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking, and further enhances the donors vision to make a meaningful change to the lives of the program’s recipients.” added Robert Hutson, Smith-Hutson Designated Representative. Applications are now open for program enrollment as well as for the scholarships. These very meaningful scholarships will be available to new enrollees as well as our current EMBA students as they enter their second year.
