Serving as a Senior Information Security Analyst for the University of Texas System, Chris Orosco just completed a Master of Science degree in digital forensics from SHSU. While it had been well over 30 years since completing her bachelor’s, Orosco found the return to college easy because of the flexibility of an online degree.
“Adding credibility amongst my peers and associates was part of what influenced my plan to pursue my master’s,” she said. “The program curriculum, the fact that it was completely online and the cost were the main factors that attracted me to SHSU’s program in particular.”
Ranked among the best for online graduate computer information technology programs by U.S. News & World Report, SHSU’s Master of Science degree in digital forensics was established in 2004, and prepares students for a variety of public and commercial arenas as digital forensics or network security professionals.
Working full-time in Austin, Orosco is an example of one of the many students who earn degrees from Sam Houston while living and working far from campus. Although obtaining her master’s was a different experience compared to her undergrad years on a college campus, she sees the value of her online degree as the same.

“Dr. Liu is an example. He opened up other avenues for multimedia learning for students," Orosco said.
Whether earning a degree online or on campus, students receive an accredited education from SHSU instructors. There is no difference between degrees earned through online course delivery and degrees earned through classroom courses.
Although some Bearkats may earn degrees without ever stepping foot on campus, Orosco has visited the Huntsville campus twice —once in 2006 when her daughter graduated from SHSU and again this past May when she walked the commencement stage herself, celebrating a new milestone in her professional career.
