Frequently Asked Questions
- If I object to receiving the meningitis vaccine what options do I have?
Please visit "What is My Next Step" section in the Information tab.
- Medical Waiver Exemption
- Waiver of Conscience
- Why do I have an immunization hold on my account?
There is an immunization hold on your account since we do not have evidence of meningitis vaccine on file. Effective January 1, 2012, The State of Texas requires all entering students to show evidence of an initial bacterial meningitis vaccine or a booster dose, which must be current within the last 5 years prior to entering SHSU.
- Is my vaccine expired?
The State of Texas requires the vaccine to be current within the last 5 years before the first class day. For example, if you received the vaccine on 08/06/2014, your vaccine would have expired on 08/06/2019.
If your initial vaccine expires during your course of attendance at SHSU, you do not have to get a new vaccine unless you are out of the University for a full semester and it expires during that time.
- Do I need the meningitis vaccine if I am only taking ONLINE CLASSES?
It is best to have evidence of your meningitis vaccine on file. However, if you are only taking online classes you can get the Meningitis Distance Learning Waiver.
This form is required to be submitted each semester that you intend to take online only courses.
