Parenting Students

According to Texas S.B. 459, effective September 1st, 2023, higher education institutions offering early registration for students will also provide priority registration for parenting students. A parenting student is classified as follows: a student enrolled at Sam Houston State University who is a parent/legal guardian of a child under the age of 18.

All students who qualify as a parenting student will need to self-certify by completing the Parenting Student Form. To be considered for priority registration, you must self-certify by the dates listed for each term below.

Students will be required to recertify for each registration period. The certification form will become available to submit 1 month before registration opening for the upcoming term.

Self-Certification Deadlines:

• Spring 2025: October 18, 2024 at 5 PM.

Priority Registration Times:

• Spring 2025: Friday, November 1st, 2024 at 1 PM for students who qualified and self-certified.
