SHSU Charter School – Employee Grievance Policy
Purpose
This policy provides a prompt, orderly process for employees to bring concerns regarding wages, evaluations, working conditions, policy application, or alleged violations of law.
Scope
Applies to all employees unless a separate procedure governs the issue (e.g., Title IX, whistleblower, or discrimination).
Non‑Retaliation & Right to Representation
Employees will not be retaliated against for using this process. An employee may be accompanied by a representative at any level.
Timelines
- File within 60 calendar days of the decision or action.
- Hearings will be held within 10 business days.
- Written decisions will be issued within 20 business days after the hearing.
Levels of Review
- Level One – Supervisor: Submit grievance to your immediate supervisor.
- Level Two – Superintendent/Designee: Appeal within 10 business days of Level One decision or deadline.
- Level Three – Charter Board of Directors: Appeal within 10 business days of Level Two decision or deadline. The Board’s decision is final at the local level.
How to File
Complete the Employee Grievance Form and submit it with supporting documentation by email, mail, or in person to Human Resources or the administrative office.
Recordkeeping
Human Resources maintains official grievance records in accordance with the district’s records retention schedule.
