ACE Course Impacts Lives At A Maternity Home

Academic Community Engagement (ACE) students worked with Journey Home, an organization based in Montgomery County, Texas. They are a non-profit maternity home that provides safety and shelter for pregnant women experiencing homelessness, as well as toddlers and newborns. They also help educate the women on various topics ranging from prenatal care to child nutrition.

As it approaches its 20-year anniversary, Sam Houston State University’s Jack Staggs Counseling Clinics are gearing up for a new semester of training counselor education students while addressing the mental healthcare needs of Huntsville and The Woodlands. Operating on a semester-to-semester basis, the clinics offer adolescent, couple, family, group and individual counseling as well as play and sand tray therapy.

Bearkats Abroad: Education Students Study Abroad In Costa Rica

Professors Francisco Usero-Gonzalez and Burcu Ates led students from Sam Houston State University to venture into Costa Rica for a unique study abroad program from May 11 to May 20. This trip was designed for students interested in pursuing a career in English as a Second Language (ESL) education, offering them an invaluable opportunity to experience teaching in a different cultural context and assist local educators.
