Dr. Caroline Waldbuesser is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University. Her interest in researching communication began in her undergraduate career when she received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from Missouri State University. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she went on to complete her MA in Communication Studies at Texas State University. During her time at Texas State University she took classes in both instructional and nonverbal communication, which led to her pursing her doctorate degree from Ohio University. In 2019 she graduated with her PhD in Relating and Organizing (Interpersonal and Organization Communication) from Ohio University.
Dr. Waldbuesser’s research interests center on instructional, interpersonal, and organizational communication. More specifically she studies how interpersonal relationships between students and teachers affect experiences in the classroom. Her previous research has focused on both student and teacher emotions in the classroom. She has also researched graduate student mental health and family relationships. Currently, she is working on a project looking at teacher body image and emotions in the classroom. Her research has been published in Communication Teacher, Communication Education, Ohio Journal of Communication, Basic Communication Course Annual, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Northwest Journal of Communication, and Pennsylvania Communication Annual. She currently holds leadership positions for both the National Communication Association and Central States Communication Associate.
