Cascade Training

SHSU.edu Website Training in Talent Management

Training for marketing website editors, publishers, and website contributors is now in Talent Management.

Per policy, anyone requesting access to Cascade CMS must also complete the univerity's Accessiblity Awarenss Training in Talent Management.

Website specific training is divided into two parts.

SHSU Website Fundamentals

Required for Web Editors and Publishers
Suggested for Website Contributors

This training is for all website contributors. Website editors and publishers must complete this training before continuing on to Working in Cascade.

This training prepares new web editors, publishers, and content contributors to work on shsu.edu. It also serves anyone requesting access to the Cascade CMS.

You will learn who the SHSU website serves and why prospective students come first. You will also see how IMC and departments share responsibility for the site, and where your CMS role fits in the publishing workflow.

The training then covers writing for the web: plain language, content built for skimming and mobile screens, clear links and calls to action, and accessibility basics. It closes with the content standards that apply to everything you publish, from image formats to PDFs to course information.

Throughout, you will use the SHSU Web Guide, the official reference for shsu.edu standards.

Working in Cascade

Required for Web Editors and Publishers

Working in Cascade is for web editors and publishers. This training requires access to the training folder in Cascade before beginning.

Request Cascade CMS access through the website request form.

This training moves new web editors and publishers from standards to practice. It builds on SHSU Website Fundamentals and prepares you to create and submit content in the Cascade CMS.

You will learn how Cascade connects to the live site and why saved edits do not appear until someone publishes them. You will also tour the dashboard and asset tree and see how components stack to build a page.

The training then turns hands-on. Working in a practice folder, you will create a folder and a page, add content with a clear purpose, save a draft, and submit your work through workflow. It closes with what publishers check before approving a page and where to find help.

Throughout, you will use the SHSU Web Guide, the official reference for shsu.edu standards.

Note* Participants must complete the following training, SHSU Website Fundamentals before completing Working in Cascade.
