Tailgating at SHSU

Bearkat Alley is the official tailgate area during football season. For every home game (and for specific away games) the Department of Campus Activities & Traditions hosts a variety of organizations and departments who tailgate in a designated area near Bowers Stadium. These groups cook an assortment of foods, which in return is free for all those who attend Bearkat Alley. Different giveaways are distributed throughout the season, ranging from t-shirts to spirit towels in order to boost Sam Houston pride!

The new official Bearkat Alley tailgating location is Lot 12, or better known as the Coliseum Lot on Bobby K. Marks Dr. & Bowers Boulevard. (Please see map & diagram).

Bearkat Alley entrance is FREE for all Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Friends & Fans!

General Policies (for a complete list of tailgating policies please refer to the official Bearkat Alley Policies Packet).

  • Bearkat Alley is free and open to all SHSU students, faculty, staff, friends & fans!
  • Student tickets are FREE and are encouraged to download before game day! 
    • Tickets can be downloaded to your phone.
    • Please contact Athletics with any questions - 936-294-1729
  • Tailgating area will be blocked off the night before a home football game.
    • Lot will be open for set-up at 8:00 AM on home game day.
    • Tailgate areas are allowed to remain set-up during the entire duration of the football game. You are not required to breakdown before the game!
      • All tailgate areas must be broken down and clean before 5:00 AM the following day. 
    • There is limited power in our new lot. Each group is responsible for providing their own equipment (generators, table, chairs, tents, etc.).
    • All vehicle traffic stops in the area an hour prior to Tailgate kick-off. The gates to enter Bearkat Alley will be locked and entry will only be granted to medical vehicles and official Sam Houston State University vehicles. NO EXCEPTIONS.
    • Alcohol consumption will be monitored by UPD and any problems that occur will be handled by UPD. Minor consumption violations will be ticketed.
    • Sam Houston State University reserves the right to revoke the tailgating pass of those who do not comply with these guidelines.
