Bio

Dr. Sambit Mohapatra is the Founding Director and Professor of Physical Therapy at Sam Houston State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physical Therapy from the University of Delhi, a Master’s in Kinesiology with a focus on Motor Control from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the same institution. Dr. Mohapatra also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Neurorehabilitation at Georgetown University and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, Washington DC.

More recently Dr. Mohapatra served as the program director for the Physical therapy program at the University of Vermont and has been a physical therapy educator for over a decade. Additionally, Dr. Mohapatra also serves as a program reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)

Dr. Mohapatra’s specializes in developing novel assessment tools for mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Concussion Syndrome, utilizing a combination of behavioral, cognitive, and neurophysiological-based outcome measures. Dr. Mohapatra is also an expert in designing innovative rehabilitation paradigms aimed at enhancing motor function recovery post-stroke. He is trained in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and has leveraged this technique to explore the correlation between neurophysiology and specific motor outcomes.

With a commitment to advancing the field of physical therapy, Dr. Mohapatra’s work bridges clinical practice and research, fostering improved patient care and rehabilitation strategies.
