There are several Internships and service opportunities that can be explored during your LALS minor. The list is not exhaustive.

  • SHSU Center for Community Engagement
  • Library of Congress Hispanic Division Volunteer Internship Program
    The Hispanic Division offers a limited number of bi-annual volunteer and paid Huntington Internships. This program gives interns the opportunities to learn about research and creativity from the Caribbean, Latin America, Portugal, Spain, and Latinx communities in the United States.
  • Montgomery County Women's Center
    To lead the effort in preventing domestic violence and sexual assault through crisis intervention, assistance, advocacy, empowerment and social change. Among different programs, MCWC also looks for academic scholarship sponsors for its clients. Being bilingual in Spanish-English is valued. The internship is a great opportunity to get an introduction to the human services field of work as well as gain experience working with those who have experienced trauma throughout their lives. Internships include, but are not limited to, client intake preparation, lead shelter tours, orientations and safety planning, crisis hotline, facilitate workshops, and childrens activities and data entry.

  • Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
    To promote safe and healthy families and protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We do this through investigations, services and referrals, and prevention programs. DFPS offers internships state-wide, however the type of opportunities might vary based on the region. Being bilingual is a plus. For more information on available internship opportunities in your area, please contact your local volunteer coordinator.
  • The Smithsonian Latino Center
    The Center offers academic internships for upper level high school students, undergraduate, and graduate students during the fall, winter/spring, and summer semesters. Interns can experience hands-on opportunities working within the exhibitions and public programs, education and outreach, web and virtual immersive education, development, and marketing departments.

  • Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities
    Champions Hispanic Success in Higher Education. The HACU National Internship Program - Corporate Component, partners with leading corporations assists matching them with the best talent from HACU member colleges and universities. A very competitive but rewarding process provide opportunities for both internships (Spring, Summer, and Fall) and full-time employment.

    To create a more just society by using and challenging the rule of law to secure transformative, equitable and accessible justice, by empowering our community and by fostering leadership through advocacy and education. Internships for LatinX community to foster leadership through advocacy and education.

  • Hispanic Access Foundation
    HAF connects Latinos with partners and opportunities to improve their lives and create an equitable society. One day, every Latino individual in America will enjoy good physical health and a healthy natural environment, a high-quality education, economic success and civic engagement in his or her community with the sum of improving the future of America. HAF's internship and fellowship opportunities appear @ manoproject.org. The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP), administered in partnership between the National Park Service, Hispanic Access Foundation, and Environment for the Americas, is designed to provide professional internships aimed to hone students’ skills in cultural, historical, and natural resource management/preservation.The contributions made by interns in this program will raise awareness of our national parks and historic sites, the importance of public land access, and the need for the Latino community involvement in their preservation.

  • The Wilson Center: The Mexico Institute
    The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars aims to unite the world of ideas to the world of policy by supporting pre-eminent scholarship and linking that scholarship to issues of concern to officials in Washington. Mexico Institute Staff Intern. U.S. citizens and permanent residents and qualified international students with F-1 or J-1 visas.

  • The Wilson Center: The Latin American Program
    The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars aims to unite the world of ideas to the world of policy by supporting pre-eminent scholarship and linking that scholarship to issues of concern to officials in Washington. Communications and Social Media Intern. Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduate, or accepted to an advanced degree program, interest in Latin American issues, fluency in English and Spanish, strong writing & editing skills.
