Internships
All students who complete programs in Fashion Merchandising, Food Service Management, and Interior Design are required to complete a supervised internship of at least 200 hours. Students are provided leads for securing internship opportunities; however, part of the internship experience is securing a suitable position.
Interior Design is a multi-faceted creative profession that requires designer’s to analyze, plan, design, document, and manage interior non-structural construction while also maintaining compliance with applicable building codes, life safety, fire, energy codes, standards and regulations to guide their work to protecting the health and welfare of the public.

The interior design program leading to the B.S. or B.A. in Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
The interior design program is also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The B.S. or B.A. in Interior Design granted by Sam Houston State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam).
