Honor Code
Sam Houston State University Honor Code
In adopting this honor code, the students, faculty, and administrators of Sam Houston State University recognize that academic honesty and integrity are fundamental values of the university community. Students commit to holding themselves and their peers to the standard of academic honesty and integrity consistent with the Student Honor Pledge in in-person, online, and hybrid courses. Faculty and administrators are also expected to uphold the ideals of academic honesty and integrity. Any individual who becomes aware of a violation of the honor code is bound by honor to take corrective action. The quality of a Sam Houston State University education is dependent upon community acceptance and enforcement of the honor code.
The Student Honor Pledge
As a member of the Sam Houston State University community, I pledge to engage in all academic pursuits (including in-person, online, and hybrid courses) in a manner that is above reproach and to maintain complete honesty and integrity in the academic experiences both in and out of the classroom. On all work submitted for credit by students at the university, the following pledge is either required or implied: “On my honor, I have neither given nor received (nor will give or receive) unauthorized aid on this assignment or exam.”
Student Responsibility
In addition to conducting themselves in a manner consistent with the Honor Pledge, students should report any behaviors or situations that violate the honor code to the course instructor, department chair, college dean, or the Dean of Students.
Faculty Responsibility
Faculty members have a duty to promote honest behavior and to avoid practices and environments that foster cheating in their classes. Faculty should encourage students to bring incidents of dishonesty or cheating to their attention. Faculty pledge that any reports will be promptly addressed and resolved.
Administrator Responsibility
As highly visible members of our academic community, administrators should model and promote academic honesty and integrity. Administrators commit to addressing and resolving any reports of violations of the honor code in a timely manner.
