Dr. Michael T. Stephenson
Michael T. Stephenson (Ph.D., University of Kentucky, 1999) is Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs as well as Professor of Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University. He previously served in various capacities at Texas A&M University and the University of Missouri. His primary research focus is on the media’s role in changing or reinforcing health behavior. His research was recognized in seven “Top Paper” awards at national and international communication conferences. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His research has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Division of Transplantation, and he has consulted on research projects funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He’s a lover of cats, basset hounds, and the Oxford comma. He and his wife Sara have seven kids ranging from 10 to 24 years old.
