2025 Academic Affairs Distinguished Staff Awards Recipients Announced
Sam Houston State University’s Office of the Provost recognized five exceptional Academic Affairs (AA) staff members during the fourth annual AA Distinguished Staff Awards ceremony on April 24. The five recipients of this year’s awards include Charlie Suarez Reyes, Jacob Spradlin, Kim Childress, Megan Hobbs-Barrett and Kelsie Bryand.
Sam Houston Children Featured in New Exhibit
Beginning May 13, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library will present “The Fate of the Eight,” an exhibition about the eight children of Sam and Margaret Houston. The exhibit will introduce you to the Houston children, Sam Jr., Nancy Elizabeth, Margaret Lea, Mary William, Antoinette Power, Andrew Jackson, William Rogers and Temple Lea.
COCJ Dean Fulfills Lifelong Goal
Phillip Lyons has a new entry for his list of accomplishments over the course of his distinguished career. For the first time since earning his Juris Doctorate (JD) in 1994, the Dean for the SHSU College of Criminal Justice (COCJ) has recently taken and passed the bar exam and is officially an attorney in the State of Texas.

SHSU CJ Department of Forensic Science Awarded Three NIJ Research Grants
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has awarded grants to three faculty members of the Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice Department of Forensic Science, totaling $1,261,437 in research funding for Fiscal Year 2024.
