Mitchel P. Roth is receiving the Frederic Milton Thrasher Award for Superior Accomplishments in Training by the National Gang Crime Research Center (NGCRC). The award recognizes superior scholarship, leadership, accomplishments and service contributions by those who work in public safety issues, such as those posed by gangs.

The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) announces a newly awarded $4,990,476, four-year Research and Development Infrastructure (RDI) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This prestigious grant is part of the RDI program’s mission to invest in research infrastructure, faculty expertise and workforce development. SHSU-COM Dean, Thomas Mohr, DO, is the principal investigator (PI), with Vinoth Sittaramane, professor of neuroscience, serving as co-PI and program director.

Li-Jen Lester, a professor of computer science and associate dean of the College of Science and Engineering Technology at Sam Houston State University, led a successful, collaborative workshop in Indonesia as part of her participation in the Fulbright Specialist Program. The workshop developed teacher educator competencies in STEM-based learning and was held in partnership with the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and its STEM Education Centre.

Admission standards for Sam Houston State University Polytechnic College were among the items approved by the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents at their regular quarterly meeting Nov. 21-22.

Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is proud to announce that its student doctors have achieved the highest pass rate in the nation for first-time test takers on the Comprehensive Medical Licensing Examination Level 1 exam for the class of 2025, administered by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Mike Aspland, executive director for the Sam Houston State University Institute for Homeland Security has been awarded the Patriot Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

With one parent in the military, Alexandra Younger was raised in Europe as a “third-culture kid.” There, she grew up in a culture that differed from the one of her parents’ home country and learned about the rooted histories of the western world. These formative years made an impact on her intellectual interests as an adult.
