Mike Yawn has been teaching at SHSU since 2001. His research specializations involve elections, congress, representation, and local government, and he has published in The Journal of Politics, Political Behavior, Social Science Quarterly, American Politics Research American Politics Quarterly, History & Film, and a textbook on politics and film. He also contributes regular columns and occasional news pieces to the Huntsville Item and to KBTX. Yawn is the University's Pre-Law Advisor (with John Domino), Advisor for the Political Science Junior Fellows, and was named one of eight Carnegie Scholars in the nation in 2008. He is on the board of directors for the YMCA, the Friends of the Wynne, and has worked in political campaigns at the local, state, and national level.
