Internships serve as a vital bridge between classroom learning and real-world experience. They provide valuable professional insights and can significantly enhance your chances of securinc a good job after graduation. Every step of the internship offers hands-on experience, which is crucial for anyone aspiring to becom a media professional.
To register for a professional internship course (MCOM 4398) in the Department of Mass Communication, you must meet the following requirements:
- Declared MCOM as my academic major.
- Completed a minimum of 18 hours in MCOM with a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Have a grade of ‘B’ or better in ENGL 1364, ENGL 1365 and any technical writing courses.
- Completed 72 hours of coursework with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.

If you meet the necessary requirements to apply for an internship and want to register for a professional internship course (MCOM 4398), your first step should be to download the FAQ document and the course syllabus. These two items will assist you in completing the internship application packet, which should be submitted to the internship coordinator prior to the beginning of the semester you will enroll in the MCOM 4398 course. You may need to request some materials from your prospective internship sponsor or provider, so it is best to start early. A complete internship application consists of the following:
- Completed Internship Application
- Completed Internship Supervisor Information Form
- Copy of your Unofficial Transcript
- Resume and cover letter
- Job description outlining the duties and responsibilities of the internship.
- A description of the professional job experience you hope to gain through this internship, including professional skills, new information and personal development.
- Head-shot or photograph of yourself.
