Biography
Evan C. Rothera is Assistant Professor of History at Sam Houston State University. He received his PhD from The Pennsylvania State University in 2017. He taught history at Sam Houston State University (2018 - 2019) and the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (2019 - 2025). He is the author of Civil Wars and Reconstructions in the Americas: The United States, Mexico, and Argentina, 1860-1880 (Louisiana State University Press, 2022) and co-editor, with Brian Matthew Jordan, of The War Went On: Reconsidering the Lives of Civil War Veterans (Louisiana State University Press, 2020). Civil Wars and Reconstructions in the Americas won the Best First Book Award from Phi Alpha Theta and the Wabash Literary Prize and was a finalist for the 2023 William E. Colby Military Writers’ Award. He was President of H-Net in 2024.
